Prepare and Share Tools for your Derby Racer
The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular Cub Scout activities. The scouts design and build cars from derby kits that the pack provides for our scheduled Pinewood Race. Alumni and families also can design and race cars. Winners at each Den level represent the Pack at the District competition that follows a few weeks later. Pack builds are intended to help Scouts who still need wood work done on their cars (cutting, sanding, glueing, etc. – NO painting, sorry). You can come to any pack build, or skip if you have the tools you need at home. At this build the scouts and their families work on their kits together to build and prepare their cars. Families with tools are encouraged to bring them to share – please sign up if coming or sharing tools so we know what we will have to work with. There’s a lot of on-line advice about engineering your car to be as fast as possible. (check it out!) There are also weight kits and other accessories available at stores like Ace Hardware, the Bethesda Scout store, and Michael's or similar hobby stores. Being the fastest is not the only way to win, though. Other awards are also given out, including the best appearance, best den chief’s car, and best parent’s car. All who participate at the pack level receive a certificate. There are also RULES about weight, height, clearance, and materials. SIGN UP TO SHARE TOOLS Contacts:
