Please follow links or listed contacts for more information.

Annual Scout Food Drive Collection for Mana Food Center
  • When:
    • Flyer Drop: Weekend, November 14-15, 2020 - Date/Times per Den Leader
    • Food Pickup: Weekend, November 21-22, 2020 - Date/Times per Den Leader
  • Where: Indian Spring / Sligo-Branview neighborhood regions by Den

One of Scouting’s foundational principles is “doing a good turn daily.” Scouting For Food is a national Boy Scout food drive every November where we aim to engage our neighbors to donate to a Food Center before Thanksgiving.  Prior to COVID-19, one out of three elementary school students qualified for Free and Reduced Meals, and 20% of the county series live below the self-sufficiency standard.  A scout is helpful, and this is our opportunity to help our neighbors. Due to COVID precautions, we are going to request a little bit of extra support from parents this year. We are asking each Den to do the following:

Identify at least 2-3 Den parent volunteers for the following roles:
  • 1 lead volunteer who will work with Scouts in the Den to get the flyers distributed for a given map area by November 15th. . We will not be dropping off bags this year, only flyers. The volunteers who indicate they will help distribute flyers will be emailed and given copies of their route map (expect this to be about 75-100 homes, but all within the same several block radius within SligoBrandview and Indian Springs neighborhoods)
  • 1 volunteer who will help to coordinate Scouts for pickups of donated goods in their same map area on Sunday November 22; you will keep the donations or drop them off to an assigned household / driver for the Den (see below). We ask that you count the number of bags and take some photos with the scouts who are involved.
  • 1 volunteer to drive the donations to the Manna Food drop-off center in Gaithersburg early in the week of November 23 between 8am-3pm M-W (9311 Gaither Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20877). We may be able to combine dens if we are not able to get enough volunteers  from each den as this would be during the normal work/school day

While this is a fast turnaround request, we hope everyone will be excited to still be involved this year and to get their neighbors involved. Manna is still in desperate need of many donations especially with the impact of COVID on many families.

Please email your den leader and cc Jason Patnosh (contact below) with your Den, the volunteers and the requested information ASAP and if you have questions.
