One of Scouting’s foundational principles is “doing a good turn daily.” Scouting For Food is a national Boy Scout food drive every November where we aim to engage our neighbors to donate to a Food Center before Thanksgiving.  Prior to COVID-19, one out of three elementary school students qualified for Free and Reduced Meals, and 20% of the county series live below the self-sufficiency standard.  A scout is helpful, and this is our opportunity to help our neighbors.

November 5: Flyer Drop ~ 1:00-3:00pm (Rain date Nov 6)
  • Scouts and families will be asked to walk around some of Indian Spring, Sligo-Branview and highland View neighborhoods to drop off flyers at each house, inviting them to leave non-perishable food donations outside the following Saturday for pick-up by scouts.
  • We will all meet at HVES Circle at 1pm to receive maps of the neighborhood for groups of scouts to deploy. While the kids are usually running from house to house some adults may choose to drive to a further away street. The entire area is about 2/3 of the Highland View school zone.

November 12: Food Pickup ~ 9:00am-12:00pm (Rain or Shine!)
  • Scouts and families will be asked to follow up flyer drop houses to collect the food. We will need multiple parents ready to drive by the kids as they run and pick up the food so they can put it into the trunks as they go.
  • We will need a handful of parents able to take the food to one of the drop-off spots in the county.
